They then visited the memorial hall that is full of documents and pictures outlining the political situation of that period and the life of Ahn Joong gun at midday the group traveled to the north east part of Korea for Yul Gok training, stopping on the way for lunch at a traditional Korean restaurant to experience genuine Korean cuisine. After the arrival to Kangrung, the Taekwon-doists lined up for Yul- Gok practice in the location of the birth of Yul-Gok. Group pictures in front of Yul Gok’s monument were taken and all participants

were accommodated in a very comfortable hotel and rested after the intensive day full of activities. The next morning after breakfast, the tour participants moved to the Sorak Mountains that are considered to be the most beautiful mountains in Korea reaching the top by cable car. In spite of the heavy rain, the most dedicated troopers climbed rocks and posed for pictures whilst admiring the spectacular views from the top of Sorak Mountain range.

Beautiful Next Day

The 4th day of the tour began with Choong Moo practice in Hyeonchungsa, the location that is dedicated to admiral Yi Soon Sin. The location includes Yi Soon Sin’s shrine and the house where Yi spent much of his youth. once the training was completed the participants had a short tour of the location and while dressed in Dobok, they travelled to Dong-Daeku by KTX one of the fastest trains in the world.

In less than an hour everyone arrived at Dondgaeku where a bus was waiting to take the participants to Dosan Seowon in Andong, the place where Yi Hwang (Toi Gye) retired and established a private Korean Confucian academy. The site was well known in Korea as one of the leading academies and was home to the Toigye School of thought for over 400 years.

In this beautiful location group photos and videos were recorded and Toi Gye tul was practiced.Friday, the 5th day of the tour was a mixture of fun and spiritual enlightenment. In the morning participants arrived at Bunwhangsaji, Seokguram Grotto, a uneSCo heritage site that has a unique Buddha statute and is associated with the Monk Wonhyo. Visiting this place was a great experience and it attracts many pilgrims from all over the world to pray. won Hyotul was performed at the Seokguram Grotto under a roof of exquisite colorful lanterns. after spending the morning practicing Wonhyo, the participants left for the recently opened

“Blue one” water Park for a few hours where they were able to relax and enjoy the nice weather and the many water attractions of the park. It was the final chance to relax before moving to Gul Gul Sa temple for the overnight stay program. once the participants had settled into the accommodation in the temple they were given a tour that included an explanation of the expected behavior in the temple. In the evening the program began with meditation, followed by the Buddhist Zen Martial arts training of Sunmudo.

after breakfast and a short rest, Hwarang tul training and a picture session were con- ducted at the temple premises. Sunmudo, then, literally means “the way of doing meditative martial arts”. It is both meditation and martial art. It is a unique in that it contains a variety of different elements that complement each other. It envelopes the dynamic and powerful movements of a martial art into the peaceful practices of meditation, yoga, and Chi Qong exercises.

Farewell Day

Next morning, all tul tour participants moved to Pusan airport and departed to Jeju Island where they spent time relaxing on Hyupjae beach giving tour participants a chance to swim and mingle with the locals. In the evening a farewell dinner was held as our guests from Venezuela were leaving the next day. Participants received tul tour completion certificates and were named the tul tour pioneers of Korea.

The 9th day of the tour began with a continental breakfast in the hotel and a trip to Sunrise peak, a volcanic formation with an extraordinary view. from sunrise peak tul troopers moved to Cheon Ji Yeon waterfall where they performed Chon-Ji pattern and lots of photographs were taken using the waterfall as a backdrop.

THETESTIMONIAL

Adams Saad Abuba- Kar, Ii Dan, Nigeria

“The Tul Tour 1 was a journey of enlightenment. It accorded me the rare privilege and opportunity to mingle with the best of the best in Taekwon-do circles and tap from the inexhaustible fountain of their experience. The knowledge gained and the friendships established are invaluable assets of life time adoration. I can proudly attest to the fact that the Tour had surpassed my wildest expectations. I look forward to participating in subsequent Tul Tour events and therefore highly recommend it to all practitioners that intend to expand their network while exploring the rich Korean culture and its limitless potentialities.”

AHMAD M. UMAR, NIGERIA

“Tul Tour 1 was an exhilarating life time experience. It availed me of the first hand opportunity to behold the birth place of Taekwon-do. The tour exposed me to the people, faces and places, sights and sounds of Korea. I was fascinated with the exponential and fast paced technological advancement of Korea, the hospitality of its people and their rich and deeply rooted culture. overall, the tour was a pilgrimage to the cradle and heartland of Taekwon-do. Kudos to the organizers of the tour that was amazingly handled in a deft and masterful way depicting the true spirit of Taekwon-do. I cannot wait to attend Tul Tour.”

“Right from the start I could feel the energy this Tour brings. I knew this was going to be a great experience. our group was given a great reception when we arrived. Here was a chance to see the great Country of Korea and learn more about the Tuls we practice. It was definitely a great learning experience. The members of the TUL Tour were great fun to be around. a lot of laughing there and fun times. My favorite was the island of Je- Ju. wow ! what a wonderful place to visit and train. There were Beaches, waterfalls, we even rode horses and not to mention go-cart racing! we all took hundreds of awesome pictures at all the sites we visited. Korea is a Beautiful Country and I look forward to going on the Tour again.”

GERMANYOLIVER DREXLER, IV DAN

“All in all 19 participants from 10 nations and from all 5 continents took part. Besides visits of several places, the daily schedule just included also several training units. especially impressive for the participants was the visit of places which all are connected with Korean history, their heroes and philosophers. “This stands, for example, the ninth TUL Choong Moo for the famous admiral Yi, who, in the 15th century, could prevent the invasion of the Japanese fleet into his homeland by his invention (the first fully armored warship).“ Thus the Choong Moo TUL was trained in Hyeongchusa in front of his birthplace and Shrine, or “Chon Ji”, which literally means, as sky and earth. This TUL was trained on the island of Jeju, - above an extinct volcano and with it, proverbially, between sky and earth. Beside a big cultural program the schedule also provided for a visit of a water park (with spontaneous won Hyo training in the water) and a great afternoon on the beach. now, what does the tour mean for me personally? I feel that I have finally arrived, and have found in the ITF the family I always have looked for. Result: I can only recommend the tour to every “real” Taekwon-Do practitioners; you will see Taekwon-Do in a different light.”

NETHERLANDSSILKE STOFFELS IV DAN

“Patterns are my favorite part of Taekwon- Do. Before my participation in the TUL Tour program in Korea I was only familiar with the general meaning of each pattern. Because of this limited knowledge, I was never able to truly experience a pattern, I mainly focused on the technical aspects and I always felt like something was missing. During the TUL Tour I have not only learned much more about the deeper meaning of the first nine patterns and the history of Korea, but I was also given the opportunity to practice these patterns at places directly related to it. next to that, the atmosphere among the TUL Tour participants was great and it was an honor to practice Taekwon-Do together with such nice and skilled people. for me, Taekwon-Do came to life during the TUL Tour and I would not have missed this for the world. I look forward to participating in future TUL Tour events and I can recommend this to anyone interested in Taekwon- Do and the Korean culture.”
